Monday, 21 December 2009 09:11 | Written by Administrator | PDF | Print | E-mail
Training in Progress

The AFNOG PHEA Intermediary level training was held in Accra, Ghana as from 29th Nov - 14 Dec, 2009, at the Directorate of ICT in the University of Ghana. The training was a continuation of the fundamental level training that was held as from 28th Sept to 4thOctober 2009 also at the same venue focusing on UNIX administration.

Both trainings had a high attendance of a total of 36 participants from the 12 PHEA assisted institutions, across East and Western Africa. There
were participants from Nigeria (18), Ghana (9), Uganda (3), Tanzania (3) and Kenya (3). The participating institutions from Kenya were from KENET and Kimathi University College of Technology, which were represented by Godwin Barechi (Assistant Network Engineer), Maureen Wanja Njue (Assistant Systems Administrator) and Eva Nyambura Kagai (ICT Center Manager) respectively.

The training was divided into two main sections: the first week focused on Scalable Networks and the second week focused on Scalable Network Services. Both sessions were intense not only covering theory but lots of practical sessions where the participants had to work on actual routers and the setting up of the Network services and tools on machines running on UNIX. AfNOG donated a laptop to each member institution at the training to assist them in setting up and running of the network services and tools.
