The 1st Annual University ICT Directors Forum took place on April 10, 2015 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi. The theme of the forum was, “Measuring and Communicating the Value of ICT to Senior Leadership of Universities and University Colleges. A total of 68 participants (ICT Directors, Invited Guests, KENET Management Board members and KENET Staff) attended the forum representing 52 KENET member institutions.
The discussions were on issues related to ERP Implementation and Setting up Disaster Recovery Sites. During the forum it was evident that the top priority for ICT directors was the implementation of Administrative Information Systems (integrated). The forum also highlighted requirements to look into before purchasing an ERP system for universities and university colleges and the processes to follow when implementing the systems.
Other issues discussed in the forum included the setting up of back up recovery sites. There are disasters that are hard to recover from and this can tarnish the reputation of the university and affect its business continuity. In this light it was highly emphasized that there was need to train staff to avoid the loss of data and enhance business continuity among universities.
