Call for Proposals: Research and Innovation Grants in Engineering 2024/2025
Kenya Education Network (KENET) plays a pivotal role in catalyzing collaboration in research and education among member universities and research institutions. Through the facilitation of Special Interest Groups (SIGs), KENET fosters collaboration in priority academic areas, discovers active researchers and faculty, and provides essential funding opportunities, including research and innovation grants for researchers and member institutions, as well as travel grants for faculty and graduate students.
Research and Innovation are important pillars in the development of any society. For Kenya to industrialize and improve the well-being of her people, increasing investment in research and development within Engineering is a must. This call seeks to fund research in engineering with great potential for impact in Kenya.
We seek to fund projects that:
- Promote collaboration between engineers and scientists to develop new methods to solve problems relevant in our social context OR Involve development and testing of an engineering solution in an industrial context
- Focus on the development and testing of teaching material to enhance the teaching of an engineering discipline
Engineering Research and Innovation Grant: Areas of Focus
The areas of focus for this round of funding are:
- Engineering Research (ER)
- Engineering Teaching (ET)
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a PhD in an engineering discipline, awarded within the last five years, or have a PhD and at least five years of active undergraduate and graduate teaching for the Engineering Teaching award. They must have an existing research team or demonstrate the ability to establish one, including full-time postgraduate students, at their university. Applicants must also be based in an accredited engineering program at a Kenyan university with active postgraduate programs, show a proven track record of supervising postgraduate students, and have recent publications in peer-reviewed journals or conferences indexed in Scopus or Web of Science within the past 12 months. Additionally, they must secure written approval from the Head of Department and the Dean or Director of their respective school of engineering.
