Education roaming (eduroam) is the free secure world-wide roaming service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions using their user ID. Chuka University is among over 40 member institutions connected to Eduroam by KENET, the National Roaming Operator of eduroam in Kenya.
User accounts are craeted for students, staff and reserahcers with an understanding that they can connect to any eduroam site they visit regardless of their location. Eduroam is a huge cost saving option as users can now access internet for free making it easier for students to do their academic work and conduct their research.

Speaking on the project, Mrs Rose Muchemi, Chuka University Network Administrator described Eduroam as a big leap forward in development especially for learning institutions highlighting how it has aided education and research. "Eduroam has been essential in a lot of aspects for both students and staff. It has enabled ease in conducting research, eLearning, web conferencing, access to university systems and facilitating communicaion online using Skype and Whatsapp," said Mrs Muchemi.
Eduroam has also enhanced universal connectivity as users can connect to other eduroam enabled centres when visiting other participating institutions. "Eduroma has transformed the education and research experience in academia. Eduroam promotes collaboration with other universities as there is ease of access to shared resoruces by students and faculty. The efficient and reliable internet connection makes it east to access learning/library resources such as e-books and e-journals on the e-library,"said Prof. Joseph M Kavulya, the University Librarian, Chuka University.
