Dr. Masibo Lumala
Masibo Lumala holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics (Communication) from the University of Nottingham, UK. He has a Masters ELT from the same University and a B.Ed degree from Moi University.
He is currently the Director of the Institute of Open and Distance E-Learning (IODEL) at Moi University, Chairperson of the Eldoret Innovation Network Advisory Board (EINAB) and a Professor at Brian Lamb School of Communication, Purdue University, USA, where he offers online courses. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the School of Information Sciences, Department of Publishing, Journalism and Communication Studies, Moi University, Kenya. He is a founder member of the ConnectAid, and a Global Ambassador for ENTREPS, a UN affiliated entity that seeks to assist member states achieve SDGs by 2030. He is among the Top 100 UN SDGs Influencers globally.
He has over 15 years of teaching Gender and Communication, Advocacy and Campaigns, and Strategic Communication. He has served as an External Examiner for Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia among others. He has published widely in the areas of Gender, Media and Communication and Culture.
He is currently working on an edited Handbook of Communication in Africa. Besides academia, Prof. Lumala sits on a number of School Management Boards in Kenya, has served as a Director for the Kenya Tourism Research Institute and was recently appointed as a Member of the Africa Tourism Board based in Eswatini. He also runs a school for community children back in Kiminini, Kenya.
He is very passionate about innovation, e-learning, social entrepreneurship and gender equality. He is also involved in consultancy work, his most recent having been with the African Union’s Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) where he was part of the Mission that evaluated the salient issues under the Big Four Agenda in the Republic of Kenya. These included youth unemployment, gender equality, corruption and diversity &inclusion. He has also consulted as for the UN Women and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, where he developed the Gender Sector Statistics Strategic Plan.
