Five new staff enhance the KENET staff pipeline

Strengthening the KENET staff pipeline aligns with its critical strategic goals for the 2022-2027 period. These goals include broadening the robust national dedicated digital infrastructure to connect member tertiary colleges, schools, teaching hospitals, and research institutions. It also aims to bolster the digital transformation and digital inclusion initiatives of member institutions and to encourage the adoption of open science methodologies and compute-intensive research.
The KENET staff will increase capacity to deliver digital services in the following key areas.
1.Network Engineering. This area serves as the cornerstone for all KENET services, tasked with constructing and managing the national research and education infrastructure, in addition to offering consultancy for campus networks. This team ensures the network's functionality through the development, setup, and management of network devices and technologies, alongside maintenance and updates, capacity forecasting, performance evaluations, troubleshooting incidents and issues, and overseeing client connectivity initiatives.
The following two (2) staff shall join the system administration team
a. Sharon Akinyi Odhiambo - a graduate of Technical University of Kenya in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. She previously worked as a Network Design Engineer at Konza Technopolis. She joins KENET as an Assistant Network Administrator strengthening the Digital Campus Infrastructure team.
b. Hellen Wanjiru - a graduate of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Telecommunication and Information Engineering. She previously served as an IP Engineer in Liquid Intelligence Technologies. She joins KENET as Network Engineer strengthening the NOC team.
2. Systems Administration. This area is tasked with the upkeep, configuration, and protection of a stable and reliable KENET cloud infrastructure. This infrastructure underpins digital enterprise, advanced research and education services, cybersecurity emergency response efforts, and ICT capacity development for the research and education community.
The following three (3) staff shall join the system administration team
- Kelvin Kimani Kinyanjui - a graduate of Maseno University in Computer Science and Technology. He previously served as ICT and Systems Consultant for OML Africa Logistics. He joins KENET as an assistant systems administrator strengthening the digital enterprise services team.
- Clinton Seme Obaga - a graduate of Chuka University in Computer Science. He joins as a graduate trainee – systems administration strengthening the cloud infrastructure team.
- Sharon Cherono Korgoren - a graduate of Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology in Business Information Technology. She serves as an experienced ERP administrator for Regal Pharmaceuticals Ltd and will join KENET as an assistant systems administrator strengthening the digital enterprise team in business development.
3.Applications Development. This area is dedicated to the ongoing improvement of the KENET remote teaching platform, creating new cloud-based software solutions to assist researchers in various fields, and streamlining KENET NOC (Network Operation Center) services through automation.
The following graduate trainee shall join the applications development team as developer:
- Ian Kiprono, a graduate from Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) in Computer Science. He will strengthen the application development team.
