KENET Deploys First Commercial Open Wi-Fi solution in Africa

KENET signed an agreement wiTH Atlancis Technologies Limited, Africa's first Open OEM, to deploy Africa's first true multi-vendor compatible Enterprise Wi-Fi network based on the Telecom Infra Projects's (TIP) Open Wifi solution. The deployment, delivered throupgh TIP ecosystem participnats, Actiontec, HFCL Lmited and Net Experience, is aimed at expanding the Wi-fi coverage of student learning spaces, lecturer halls and hostels in the main campusof Kenyatta University, a public research-intensive University in Nairobi, Kenya. TIP Open Wifi is a community-developed, disaggrgated Wi-Fi software system, offered as free open-source software that features premium managed Wi-Fi features, including both a cloud controller SDK and an Enterprise-grade Access Point(AP) firmware, designed and validated to work seamlessly together. It confers several key benefits making it particularly suited to delivering capital and operational savings that reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO). The enterprise and carrier-grade features enable the provision of high capacity connectivity that is of superior quality at scale. This is critical for delivering top notch service/ to meet the requirements and expectations of today's students.

Mr. Anthony Mbaabu, Director ICT, Kenyatta University commended the Open Wi-Fi initiative and observed its contribution to enhance access to internet in the University community.
