KENET conducted a five (5) day capacity building workshop for network/system administrators and ICT infrastructure managers from November 27- December 1, 2023 at the KENET Training room. The Scalable Campus Networks and Wireless LAN Design training was attended by 32 participants from 31 member institutions including universities, teaching hospitals, research institutions and university colleges. The training focused on mastering building of scalable campus networks through a practical and hands-on approach as they operate a TCP/IP network with inter-campus and international connectivity.
KENET’s Senior Systems Administrator, Ms. Patricia Nyanjau emphasized on the need of participants to implement the Training of Trainers (ToT) model which aims to build a pool of competent trainers who will then train other people in their respective institutions. “ It is essential to use the skills and knowledge gained from this training to also empower other ICT staff in your institutions. This is also a form of capacity building as you support the ICT operations, ” said Ms. Nyanjau.
Speaking during the training Mr. Dominique Koech, System Administrator, Egerton University highlighted how informative the training had been in improving his technical skills. “ The training has equipped me with hands-on skills to effectively design and implement a large-scale campus network at Egerton university. ” This was further reiterated by Ms. Julie Mburu, Technologist, Technical University of Kenya who applauded KENET for empowering member institutions technology wise by equipping them with the necessary skills to further enhance digital inclusion.
