Four Maseno University ICT staff successfully underwent a Web Server Administration Training organized by the Kenya Education Network (KENET) from July 7-10, 2026. The instructor-led programme sought to strengthen the technical capacity of the participants to effectively manage the day-to-day operations of institutional systems.
Throughout the four days, the training was delivered through a combination of lectures and hands-on practical sessions. Key areas covered included Linux server administration, web server configuration, server security, database management, website migration, troubleshooting, and Drupal application maintenance.

Susan Makhanu, a Webmaster at Maseno University, lauded the training for equipping them with practical skills that will enhance the management of the University's web infrastructure. She noted that it broadened her technical expertise, particularly in working within the Linux environment.
She also appreciated KENET trainers for their engaging facilitation, which, she said, made the concepts easy to understand and apply. "The training has given us practical experience in using industry-standard tools and best practices to manage institutional web infrastructure and digital services. As we return to our University, we are better equipped to support and improve our web services," she said.
Similar sentiments were shared by Wilson Obuya, an Assistant Webmaster, who described the training as a unique experience, noting that he was able to learn critical aspects of web server administration within a short period. He added that the sessions gave him practical exposure to new areas, enhancing his understanding of modern web server administration.

Through such initiatives, KENET continues to strengthen the capacity of ICT staff in Kenyan education and research institutions by equipping them with advanced knowledge and practical skills to properly manage, secure, and optimize digital infrastructure.
