KENET is mandated, among other things, to facilitate research collaboration among member institutions. This is done through three Special Interest Groups (SIGs), namely, Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS), Computational Modelling and Materials Science (CMMS), and Engineering. Each SIG is coordinated by a part-time Research Associate, who is usually a senior faculty member or researcher in the respective academic area. In this role, they help KENET build and grow a network of researchers and faculty, as well as develop Calls for Proposals for research and innovation grants targeting early career PhD faculty/researchers based at KENET member institutions.
In light of this, KENET intends to operationalize a Special Interest Group in Medicine (and Surgery) from the Financial Year 2026/2027 and is, therefore, inviting nominations for a Research Associate in the academic area.
Requirements
The nominee should meet the following criteria:
- Is recognized by his or her colleagues as an academic leader in Medicine with demonstrated passion, for example, in formation of research groups, leadership in national thematic groups, adoption of blended learning practices in their specific areas of medical education, and mentoring the next generation of junior researchers and faculty in medicine.
- Has earned PhD in any area of medicine and is a full-time employee in one of the member institutions of KENET – university, medical research institute or teaching and/or research hospital.
- Has five or more years of experience of teaching and/or research experience in a Kenyan School of Medicine on a full-time or part-time basis and with time to promote the advancement of research in medicine at a national level.
- Is an active researcher who has supervised graduate students and is aware of the emerging research areas in the SIG area and medical ethics.
- Has attracted grants from national/international organizations to support research and is willing to prepare Calls for Proposals for early-career faculty in medicine and application of educational technology in teaching medical courses in any of the different areas of medicine or surgery.
