On Monday 16th March, 2015, ICT Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr Fred Matiang’i launched a DeHUB innovation lab at Dedan Kimathi University (DeKUT) in Nyeri and the university’s strategic plan. The DeHUB will enable the students of DeKUT to not only have the creative space to innovate but also dedicated bandwidth to enable the students to create and test their innovations.
While addressing the students and guests Dr. Matiang’i stated that the future of any economy was pegged on what he called the 3Ds. Design, Devices and Data and that companies and countries have identified this trend and are strategizing and positioning themselves to harness this potential. He praised DeKUT for opening the DeHUB. He stated that this was a commendable initiative and that it would go a long way in boosting innovation among the students The C.S later officiated the ground-breaking of a KENET mast at the Chancellor’s court that will serve DeKUT and Karatina University. He later planted a tree at the same venue.
DeKUT’s Vice Chancellor Prof Ndirangu Kioni said the technology iHub will make teaching, learning and administration more effective. He also said that they had aligned the University Strategic Plan with the ministry’s ICT Masterplan.
