KENET Graduate Trainee Program
What is the KENET Graduate Trainee Program?
The KENET graduate trainee program is an intensive one year on the job training that aims to develop young talents that are recent graduates of; electrical engineering, computer science and information systems with capacity in; network engineering, information and shared services, and communication areas to independently fulfill the needs of member institutions and other organizations in the ICT sector.
Combining theoretical insights and hands-on practical approach, our graduate trainee program has been designed to be the foundation that cultivates future ICT talent for challenging, and rewarding professional careers within the ICT sector.
How can institutions participate in the KENET graduate trainee program?
The KENET graduate trainee program works in the following ways:
- KENET recruits the graduate trainees for a fixed term of year on behalf of participating universities (on average we receive 1500 applications per year and we only hire five graduate trainees, very competitive).
- The graduate trainees would spend 3 months at KENET being trained by KENET engineers (hands-on and intensive training in systems administration, network administration and helpdesk operations). The rest of the 9 months would be at the main campus of a participating university but under technical supervision of experienced KENET engineers. At the 9th or 10th month, the participating university would be required to make the hiring decision for the graduate trainee (i.e., are they interested or able to hire the graduate trainee as a junior ICT staff after the fixed term contract with KENET).
- The participating university would pay the salary and associated training costs to KENET. Note that the graduate trainee would work for the participating university for a period of nine months and so that the salary (maintenance cost for sponsoring the graduate trainee) is not lost. If the university choses to hire the graduate trainee after the 12 months of training, then they could bond the employee for some two or three years (this could be part of the contract conditions).
