Last week, KENET hosted an Africa Connect review team; Dr. Lishan Adams and Prof. Dany Vandromme, former Head of Renater, the NREN of France for three days. Dr. Adam and Prof. Vandromme had visited to evaluate the impact of Africa Connect Project and how the project has benefited KENET as an NREN.
In addition to the evaluations, the Africa Connect representatives also assessed aspects of KENETs Governance and operations approach which could be adopted in the management of other NRENs in the region. The team not only talked to KENET personnel but met with our partners, stakeholders, Government officials, some of the connected KENET member universities and research institutes.
The Africa Connect project aims to establish a high-capacity Internet network for research and education in Southern and Eastern Africa to provide the region with a gateway to global research collaboration. The first phase of the project ran from May 2011 to May 2015. The evaluation will be useful in improving future Africa Connect Projects.
