KENET in conjunction with Internet Society successfully organized a public lecture on “Internet Standards Development and the Internet Engineering Task Force”. The public lecture was graced and addressed by Olaf Kolkman, Chief Internet Technology Officer, Internet Society. The lecture was hosted at the USIU auditorium on 9th July 2015.
The forum brought together over 260 participants from 22 Kenyan universities. These included the best senior ICT graduate and undergraduate students.
In his address; Kolkman observed, "Internet is a network of independent networks that exchange IP traffic". Highlighting on the significance of collaboration, he exhorted his youthful audience to heighten their involvement in Internet engineering aspects. Emphasizing on the importance of global Internet standard and guidelines that will enable the Internet community to continue in its growth, Kolkman warned that every software developer has a responsibility to the users to develop secure applications, which do not lead to data loss.
The Internet Society is the home of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) that develops Global Internet standards. IETF furthers the development and specification of Internet technology through discussion of technical issues, direction, policy, and procedures.
