KENET Staff Attend the UbuntuNet Connect 2015
KENET staff, Jeremiah Kioko and Fridah Manyaki had the opportunity to attend the UbuntuNet-Connect Advanced Routing Workshop and Conference held at Maputo, Mozambique, from 15th November 2015-20th November 2015.The training was a mixture of lectures and hands on lab work based on mostly Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), the focus being on BGP best practices in a multi-homing environment. It was an interesting collaboration activity as they worked together in groups to simulate the labs. They also had an opportunity to interact with National Research and Education Network (NREN) and University IT staff from other countries, and thus were able to appreciate the state of research networks in other Ubuntunet Alliance members. Their trainers; Philip Smith from Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC), Michelle Opiyo from KENET and Patrick Okui from NSRC did a fantastic job and assisted the trainees in numerous ways while they were undertaking the lab activities.
On 19th November, 2015 the two day UbuntuNet Connect Forum kicked off. Ubuntunet Alliance was celebrating 10years since its inception and it was well attended. The UbuntuNet Connect Forum was very informative and had several papers presented, including some of KENET's own, that were very well received. Some of the key take aways from the conference included; developing digital repositories for universities, the MAGIC Project aimed at globally connecting researchers and academics, enhancing Research and Education Network (REN) Partnerships to address common challenges, data repositories and science gateways for open science.
