KENET was allocated additional space to expand its existing data center at United States International University Africa (USIU-A). This was aimed at increasing the capacity of the Data Center to host additional equipment to serve the Universities and other institutions of higher learning in Kenya. The prospect of adding more equipment meant an increase in the total load and hence required an upgrade of the different systems that were running the current data center during the design process.
These upgrades included; the power system, fire suppression system and the air conditioning system. The remodeling and upgrade of was done during the December holidays owing to the noisy nature of the works. The expansion was completed on 6th February 2016.
KENET now has more space to that can be used for co-location and also to be used as a disaster recovery site for member institutions in Kenya.
