KENET has rolled out a new 10GE high capacity carrier Ethernet network. The new carrier Ethernet network enhances the reliability and capacity of the KENET backbone network in addition to providing Internet access and data center interconnectivity KENET members. KENET's new network could eventually be extended to provide connectivity to other educational institutions, including primary and secondary schools in the country. This new network provides KENET with greater bandwidth to support more traffic and better serve its education and research institution customers with superior levels of service level agreement (SLA) commitments and improved traffic engineering possibilities.
The backbone network will be core in interconnecting KENET's critical points of presence while complementing existing last mile connectivity options that include managed fiber capacity provided for by 3rd party providers. KENET uses a mix of lit fiber as well as managed capacity to provide connectivity solutions to it's members.
