Developing Human Capacity at KENET
KENET's human capacity continues to grow to meet the demands of the ever expanding broadband network designed and operated by KENET. As of June 2013, 122 campuses were connected to KENET network, distributing over 2,000 Mb/s of International bandwidth and had rolled out about 1,000 KM of KENET-owned fiber links. The community now serves over 350,000 students and about 30,000 staff members.
This year alone, we hired Eight high-end ICT professionals and accountants. KENET is therefore therefore pleased to introduce the following staff who joined KENET this year.
Senior Staff – Network Engineering and Accounting
- Luke Matere, a 2002 electrical engineering graduate of Moi University joined us from Telkom Kenya where he worked as an IP engineer. He is completing his MBA studies at University of Nairobi. He joined KENET in July 2012 as the Shared Services Manager but has been busy has been of the campus networks development team in addition to developing new services (e.g., VPN services). He also helps the core IP network team because of his experience in managing advanced networks.
- Hillary Cheserek is a 2008 Electrical and Communication Engineering graduate of Moi University and joined KENET in May 2013 as a Network Engineer. He is certified as CCIP. He previously worked with Adwest Communications and Amiran Communications rolling out radio and MPLS networks for mobile operators and Internet operators. He will join the core IP network team because of his experience in MPLS networks as well as the Network Development team.
- Moses Mueti Musau is a 2005 B.Com graduate of Maseno University and a CPA (K). He joined KENET in June 2013 as a Senior Accountant to provide leadership in accounting and business analysis and to train the younger accountants. He previously worked for Panafrica Equipment as a Management Accountant and we are excited that he agreed to join KENET.
Graduate trainees – network engineering and accounts
- Lawrence Moriaso joined KENET as a graduate trainee in the accounts department in March 2013. He is a 2011 B.Com (accounting option) graduate from African Nazarene University and previously worked with Sanghani & Sons LTD as an accounts assistant. In addition to his work as an assistant accountant, he will be part of the communications team operating the KENET blog that will keep the community updated.
- Joan Matheri joined KENET as a graduate trainee in the accounts department in March 2013. She is a 2012 Business Management (Finance Option) graduate from Masinde Muliru University of Science and Technology and also a CPA (K). She previously worked as an intern account assistant with DHL and will strengthen the accounts department at KENET.
- Saitoti K. Chemut joined KENET in April 2013 as a graduate trainee – network engineering. He is a 2012 Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Nairobi and has joined the network development team as well as the NOC technical team as a trainee engineer
- Jeremiah Kioko joined KENET in May 2013 as a graduate trainee – network engineering. He is a 2012 graduate of Telecommunications Engineering from JKUAT and worked briefly at Soliton Telemec (K) LTD as a NOC assistant engineer. He will join the NOC and network development teams as a trainee engineer.
- Nelly Njoroge joined KENET in March 2013 initially as graduate intern and will transition to graduate trainee – network engineering. She is a 2012 graduate of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Manchester University, UK and worked briefly as an intern at CCK. She will be working with the NOC and Network Development team as a trainee engineer.
