Grid Infrastructures And Science Gateways Workshop - 30th Nov - 1st Dec 2016
KENET hosted a one and half day training on the use of Grid Infrastructures and Science Gateways on the 30th November and the 1st December 2016 at the KENET Training room, at the University of Nairobi KENET offices. Over 25 researchers from faculty and PHD students in Kenya were in attendance.
Training Objectives
The objective of the training was to equip participants with practical skills on how to access and use scientific applications available on Grid Infrastructures and Science Gateways for their research activities using the KENET Digital Certificates and Identity Provider Service. The event also provided an opportunity for discussions on possible research collaborations and partnerships between the participants. We were able to issue over 25 digital certificates from the KENET CA during the training workshop. This means that our researchers can now access resources available globally where the KENET issued digital certificates are accepted including the Africa Grid, South Africa Grid and the European Union Grid (EU Grid) where there are enormous computing and storage resources for researchers. Additionally, all the participants were registered in the KENET Identity Provider and will therefore be in a position to use science gateways that accept authentication from the KENET Idp
Eligibility:
Faculty and postgraduate students from KENET member institutions were selected for the training with the following being considered during the selection process.
- A demonstrated need for High Performance Computing resources as evidenced by a proposed or ongoing research activity.
- Identification of specific scientific applications available on a science gateway for the research activity.
- A commitment to disseminate the knowledge and skills gained to other researchers in their institutions.
