The Annual ICT Directors Forum for Universities, Research Institutes and Teaching Hospitals was held in Naivasha on April 27-28, 2023. The One and half-day-in-person event was attended by ICT Directors from Universities, Research Institutions and Teaching Hospitals or their representatives with over 93 participants. Invited guests, KENET Management Board and staff were also in attendance. The theme for the forum was, "Financing Digital Transformation and Digital Campus Infrastructure in Member Institutions".
...Identity and Access Management (IAM) remains a significant challenge within the Research and Education (R&E) community in Africa greatly hindering collaboration within the region. The idea of having a Kenyan Identity dederation was originated in 2016 to help solve this problem. The aim was to provide easy access and facilitate Single Sign-On (SSO) for KENET and its member institutions to research materials and services globally.

KENET has been awarded the Building Opportunities/Leveraging Technologies (BOLT) grant worth $200,000 by the Internet Society Foundation. The BOLT Grant Program is designed to support teams of innovators, technologists and researchers in relevant non-profit organizations working to expand the possibility of Internet connectivity and access globally (see BOLT Grant Website for further details). Education roaming (eduroam) is the free secure world-wide roaming service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions using their user ID. Chuka University is among over 40 member institutions connected to Eduroam by KENET, the National Roaming Operator of eduroam in Kenya.
It is my sad duty to write this brief tribute to the late Professor George Magoha, who served as a KENET Trustee for 10 years, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for six and a half years (2008 – 2015). He was a Trustee nominee of the University of Nairobi (UoN), one of the five founding universities of the KENET Trust. We at KENET are grateful for all the support he offered us during his time as a Trustee and later as the CS for the Ministry of Education (MoE).
