Faculty Workshop Held On Use Of KENET Virtual Training Lab
Faculty who teach ICT Networking courses benefited from a 3 day workshop hosted by KENET. The workshop which ran from September 18-20, 2017 gave the 25 participants an opportunity to use the KENET virtual training lab for the first time. The training which was fully funded by KENET strengthened the faculty’s technical capacity so that their students can be more productive.
Scalable Campus Network Training, April 3-7, 2017
KENET concluded the Scalable Campus Training that was conducted from April 3-7 2017 at the KENET training center located at University of Nairobi. The training had 21 participants from 19 member organisations. The training was conducted by KENET senior Systems and Network Engineers and covered topics including Campus Network Design principles and best practices, Switching Architectures (STP), VLANs, IP routing and Campus Network Monitoring.The participants were able to configure the KENET training lab that has actual switches, routers and servers.
Remote Teaching

KENET is partnering with selected universities for the remote teaching pilot project. The pilot project includes the use of web conferencing technology for remote teaching. These universities include CUEA, Daystar University, and UoN with KENET as the implementation partner and project funder. The objective of the pilot project is to reduce the cost of teaching multiple classes and explore the possibility of remote teaching using a web conferencing. Read more
KENET Schools Connectivity Initiative

The KENET Schools Connectivity Initiative (SCI) aims to coordinate the different commercial, educational and government organizations that are interested and willing to promote the use of ICT in Kenyan schools for teaching, learning and administration. The general objective of the initiative is to improve the quality of education by transforming teaching, learning and administration of schools in Kenya.

IBM Cloud Lab

As part of the IBM Africa Skills Academy Program, the IBM Cloud Lab hosted by KENET supports IBM's premier training and certification initiative for academia in Kenya. The program provides unique academic roadmaps for faculty members and students preparing them to succeed in demanding positions unique to the market. The program provides a world class training experience, leverage of IBM official courses, IBM official instructors and hands-on laboratories in multiple languages.
KENET Survey Reveal Increasing Need For Internet Connectivity In TVETS

A visit by KENET to 10 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs) Institutions in Western Kenya, from Bomet to Baringo revealed the increasing need for Internet services in these colleges. The five-day (Sep 12-16) visit by the KENET team provided an opportunity for KENET to assess the institution’s connectivity to the KENET internet as well as listen to their needs. The survey found that the increasing need for Internet connectivity was attributed to factors such as increasing student population, expansion of curriculum and facilities.
Teaching on the KENET Remote teaching project starts
KENET is pleased that two of the three universities participating in the remote teaching project have already started teaching using the equipment provided. Web conference equipment was installed at all the sites including Daystar Athi river, Daystar town, CUEA langata, CUEA gaba, University of Nairobi main, University of Nairobi Mombasa and University of Nairobi Kisumu campuses.
Remote Teaching Project Design
KENET has setup remote teaching classrooms at each of the campuses of the participating Universities using the KENET web conferencing system. The KENET Web Conference system is an online service for organizing collaborative activities such as webinars, webcasts and meetings. The system can also be extended to teaching through the setup of appropriate audio visual infrastructure.
Remote Teaching Project Activities
All the proposal written to the vice chancellors of the three participating universities namely university of Nairobi, Daystar university and Catholic University of East Africa were accepted. The following are the agreed project activities:-
