Understanding Cloud Services for Member Institutions

The higher education and research community (students, faculty, researchers and staff) take Cloud Services for granted. Most members of the community have a Google mail or Yahoo e-mail address (vc@gmail.com or steve@yahoo.com) and are vaguely aware that their e-mail is stored somewhere in the Internet or in the cloud. Advanced Scalable Campus Network Training 4th - 8th April, 2016

KENET successfully conducted the Advance Scalable Campus Network training from April 4-8th 2016. The training was conducted at the KENET training room located at University of Nairobi. The training had a total of 25 participants from 22 KENET member Institutions. This was an advanced training and the participants were required to have at least 3 years working experience on campus.

ISOC Introduction to Network Operation Online Course

The Internet Society (ISOC) has developed an online introductory course on network operations. So far over 75 participants have successfully completed the online course. The Introduction to network operations course is a prerequisite to attend the KENET trainings. Kindly refer to the 2016 training calendar to see the available courses.

2016 Training Calendar for the KENET Member Institutions

The KENET 2016 training calendar is out. This year, KENET plans to hold two (2) residential courses for the purpose of strengthening our member institutions technical capacity in both academic and research areas. UbuntuNetConnect 2015: BGP Workshop

KENET participated in the UbuntuNetConnect 2015: BGP Workshop that was held in Maputo, Mozambique from November 15-18,2015.The workshop focused on imparting skills on the configuration and operation of National Research and Education Networks. This was an advanced course and all participants were expected to have experience and knowledge in routing. The workshop was organised by NSRC www.nsrc.org and Africa Connect who are KENET partners.

Training Partners

KENET has been able to establish partnerships that have ensured effective and successful running of trainings for members
1. Network Startup Resource Center, NSRC (http://nsrc.org/):has been one of the long standing KENET partners who have donated equipment valued at over $100,000 to setup a training lab that includes network switches, routers and a virtualization server. NSRC also donates some of its highly trained and experienced trainers to come assist with running some of the training programmes.

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology launches an Innovation Lab

On Monday 16th March, 2015, ICT Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr Fred Matiang’i launched a DeHUB innovation lab at Dedan Kimathi University (DeKUT) in Nyeri and the university’s strategic plan. The DeHUB will enable the students of DeKUT to not only have the creative space to innovate but also dedicated bandwidth to enable the students to create and test their innovations.
