Kenya Education Network (KENET) is committed to catalyzing collaboration in research and education across its member universities and research institutions. By facilitating Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in priority academic areas, KENET promotes collaboration, fosters discovery among active researchers and faculty, and provides essential grants to support innovative research and educational initiatives. KENET also offers travel grants to faculty and graduate students to advance research in SIG areas.

a)Managing Layouts

In a session, the default view is designed to provide a comprehensive and intuitive layout, incorporating both webcam feeds and the whiteboard/presentation area.

As a moderator, you can manage layout of the participants by selecting “manage layout” in the action menu located at the bottom left of the presentation screen.

UPDATED FEATURES IN KENET WEB CONFERENCE PLATFORM V2.6

The KENET web conference platform runs on BigBlueButton open-source software and supports real-time sharing of audio, video, slides (with whiteboard controls), chat, and the screen. The platform is interactive as it allows instructors to engage remotely with students using polls, emojis, multi-user whiteboard, and breakout rooms. The platform can also be used for group collaboration and remote teaching. KENET is currently offering this service to its members at no additional cost.

RAFIKI: The First Kenya Identity Federation

Identity and Access Management (IAM) remains a significant challenge within the Research and Education (R&E) community in Africa greatly hindering collaboration within the region. The idea of having a Kenyan Identity dederation was originated in 2016 to help solve this problem. The aim was to provide easy access and facilitate Single Sign-On (SSO) for KENET and its member institutions to research materials and services globally.

KENET Awarded $200,000 BOLT Internet Access Gap Grant

KENET has been awarded the Building Opportunities/Leveraging Technologies (BOLT) grant worth $200,000 by the Internet Society Foundation. The BOLT Grant Program is designed to support teams of innovators, technologists and researchers in relevant non-profit organizations working to expand the possibility of Internet connectivity and access globally (see BOLT Grant Website for further details).
