Understanding Cloud Services for Member Institutions

The higher education and research community (i.e., students, faculty, researchers and staff) takes Cloud Services for granted. In fact, most members of the community have a Google mail or Yahoo e-mail address (vc@gmail.com or steve@yahoo.com) and are vaguely aware that their e-mails are stored somewhere in the Internet or in the cloud. Moreover, most KENET member universities have already moved their student e-mails to Google by taking advantage of FREE Google Apps for Education Services. It means that the e-mail is stored in Google servers that are outside of Kenya.

2016 Training Calendar for the KENET Member Institutions

The KENET 2016 training calendar is out. This year, KENET plans to hold two (2) residential courses for the purpose of strengthening our member institutions technical capacity in both academic and research areas. The calendar and full details of the planned courses can be downloaded from the KENET website or by clicking on the link. We invite you to nominate one of your experienced network administrators for the Advanced Scalable Campus Networks residential course to be held on April 4-8, 2016 in Nairobi.

KENET Partners with IBM to Enhance Critical Entry-level Job Skills for University Graduates

KENET and IBM have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that allows IBM to deliver advanced online hands-on certification courses to faculty and students of participating universities over KENET’s broadband network. These certification courses aim to develop and/or enhance entry-level job skills among university students and shall be facilitated by both IBM online trainers and certified faculty in the participating universities.

Network Management and Monitoring/BMO Training

KENET has organized Network Management and Monitoring/BMO residential hands-on training in the week of July 27-31, 2015. This is part of KENET's mandate to provide capacity building to member institutions. This is an advanced course for experienced network engineers/network administrators and system administrators.

The course is designed to provide necessary skills of managing and monitoring bandwidth usage on the campus network. The course will provide skills of bandwidth management principles within a campus environment and development and implementation of bandwidth policies.
