Call for Proposals: Research and Innovation Grant in Computer Science and Information Systems 2022/2023

The Computer Science and Information Systems (CS/IS) Research and Innovation Grants is intended to promote early-stage CS/IS research and development in current and emerging research areas, as well as strengthen the CS/IS SIG. The Research and Innovation grants target early-stage research, enabling researchers to undertake proof-of-concept work to support R&D ideas and concepts.

KENET Deploys First Commercial OpenWiFi solution in Africa

Kenya Education Network (KENET), the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya, today announced it has signed an agreement with Atlancis Technologies Limited, Africa’s first Open OEM, to deploy Africa’s first true multi-vendor compatible Enterprise Wi-Fi network based on the Telecom Infra Project’s (TIP) OpenWiFi solution.

Updated features in KENET Web Conference Platform v2.3

The KENET web conference platform runs on BigBlueButton open-source software and supports real-time sharing of audio, video, slides (with whiteboard controls), chat, and the screen. The platform is interactive as it allows instructors to engage remotely with students using polls, emojis, multi-user whiteboard, and breakout rooms. The platform can also be used for group collaboration and remote teaching. KENET is currently offering this service to its members at no additional cost.

11th Annual Heads of Institutions Forum – December 10-11, 2019

The KENET 11th Annual Heads of Institutions Forum will be held at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa, Mombasa from 10th to 11th December 2019. The two-day event will be attended by various KENET member institutions (VCs, Principals, Directors etc) or their representatives with over 129 participants representing; 32 Public Universities and University Colleges, 31 Private Universities and University College, 26 TVETs, 8 Teaching Hospitals, 15 Government Institutions, 14 Research Institutions and 3 Affiliates. Invited guests and KENET Trustees, Management Board and Staff will also be in attendance.

This year’s theme will be, “Scaling up the Development of Digital Skills: The Critical Success Factor in Institutional Transformation” The keynote speaker at the forum will be, Dr. Sajitha Bashir, Adviser, Science, Technology and Innovation, World Bank. She will be speaking on the African Digital Economy Moonshot and Digital Skills Development.

Four NREN Members of UbuntuNet Alliance namely; Kenya Education Network (KENET), Mozambique Research and Education Network (MoRENet), Tanzania Education and Research Network (TERNET) and Research and Education Network of Uganda (RENU) are part of the stakeholders of the Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) Solutions for the Internet of Things Workshop which will be held from 17-21 February 2020 at the Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

Call for Proposals: Computer Science, Information Systems and Engineering Multi-Disciplinary Mini-Grants 2019/2020

KENET has as one of its mandates, the role of catalyzing collaboration in research and education among member universities and research institutions. KENET promotes collaboration through facilitation of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in priority academic areas, discovery of active researchers/faculty, provision of research and education mini-grants to researchers and member institutions, as well as travel grants for faculty and/or graduate students in SIG areas.
